Romcenter 2.70 Bug?!?!?!

Post by mrmcdizzle »

Emulator generated datfiles

when loading datfiles i get these messages, the datfiles worked on the previous versions of Romcenter(even 2.70 beta)

for Nebula

: List index out of bounds (0)

for Winkawaks

: Access violation at address 004ACAFB in module 'romcenter.exe'.Read of

address 0000000C

the dats for these emulators work from the website but not when generated from the emulator, any ideas?

I remember something...in early beta version of 2.70 they are all right but not all betas is ok. At least, beta 7 seems to have this bug too, or with different error messages, I can't remember clearly. I hope these helpful:)

generate cm dat from nebula or kawaks... then convert it to rc with datutil.. it works for me

this is not rc fault, but the emu itself that generates old dat format

No-one should be using the Nebula generated data file anyway because it has incorrect information in it. If you do, you will find that you have missing ROMs for some games (seen via the emulator's internal audit). I don't know why this should be the case but it is.

My data file does not contain the errors (it matches the Nebula drivers exactly) so I would recommend using it in preference to the generated one.

Some Nebula's *.dat files have errors for a long time during several releases. One example is that you cannot find vhunt2 in any *.dat file but vhunt2r1 exists in CPS2.dat as vhunt2's clone set. Some clone sets' roms have as same names as parent or other clone sets' but with different CRC32 and SHA1 too. Chaos.

Yes, I know of all those errors but I have worked around them accordingly (e.g. ignore invalid parent names and rename ROMs that have CRC conflicts, etc). Kawaks also references non-existent parent but other than that is tidy. All good reasons to use my data files. ;)

Yeah, Nebula has had bad/out of date datfiles for a long time. Logiqx does a good job keepin rc up to date, but there are far more errors than just the crcs...I've tried contacting elsemi about it but all my mail goes unanswered (he's prolly busy with other things or just doesn't care anymore). I've been updating his datfiles for the past two years until i found a limitation in his emu. After trying to add more than 512 games, the whole game list will disappear .
Sadly even if you remove the newer neogeo games, the list is still over 512 since razoola has been releasing a lot of cps2 lately....
Hey Logiqx, i hate to ask, but is there any way for you to contact him?
I'd like to submit my work to elsemi for his approval if possible.
Thanks :D

I don't have means of contacting ElSemi. I've just used the form-mail on his website in the past (which just seems to be one-way correspondance).

Ha, yeah i've used that thing so many times it's not even funny...I have a feeling he doesn't read em or something. I'm not tryin to be egotistical or anything, but i really think if he would look over my dats and added them to his next release it would really help out all the people compaining about his emu, and would give people a better experience with using nebula. Maybe he doesn't care that people bad mouth his emu because the datfiles make people think that the emu was written poorly, when in fact it is very nice and extremely compatible with almost every game that it is supposed to support... once you clean up the dats. :)
My dats have all games in alphabetical order, proper parent/clone relationships, total rewrite of cps1 [system] entries and dip switches
everything updated to mame98u2....and on and on......
I've done about everything i can to them besides getting them 24k gold plated :P Oh well..... maybe one day he will actually be interested in looking at them.......here's hoping.....
