mame dat are extracted from the mame.exe. All you need is the mame binaries.

Open the "datafile manager". In there, choose "mame import". Select your mame exe and press "open". In the datafile name, enter something like "Mame v0.112" or whatever you like. This will be the name of the datafile. In datafile type, leave it as is ("mame"). Then just press build.
