Hi
Can somebody read my question here?
https://bitbucket.org/ebolefeysot/romce ... mcenter-vs
Is it correct MAME does NOT check file NAMES but only file size and file CRC?
How else to explain MAME runs this ROM detected "incomplete" by romcenter without any error message?
This is not a real romcenter issue but I didn't know where to post it and I would like somebody with MAME knowledge explain me this.
I think it's strange.

Hi Jessica.
First of all, you should have asked this question here not in the bug reporting site. That's for RC bugs and features only and is not checked by regular users for questions about RC or anything else.
Anyway, what you're asking may have an explanation. You have used a datafile to create your database. This datafile was created by a certain version of MAME. Are you using the same MAME version to play the game? Maybe you are using an older / newer version, which requires the names as they currently are in the game zip file.

Re: romcenter vs mame ROM check
I did use MAME.exe to create the database and use the same MAME to run it. So I did not use a datafile.
I don't understand why MAME does not complain about the wrong file names.

Re: romcenter vs mame ROM check
Well, when you use mame.exe, it actually does produce a datafile (the process is just not visible to the user). From what i understand though, the point is that you used the same version of mame.exe in both cases, so that seems strange.
I guess Eric might have to take a look at this.

Re: romcenter vs mame ROM check
Hi Jessica
AFAIK, mame relies only on crc/sha1 to find the roms. So you can name your roms as you want.
Good naming is of course important to understand what the rom is related to.
