As RAR5 seems to be the new king of compression, any chance you could implement support for it in Romcenter?

what emulator can read RAR5 format ?

imho the best compression is now with 7-zip 15.12.

Not so much for emulators, but just for collection sake as it seems to compress better then 7zip does.

Rar compressions are not free. Reading requires no licenses, but not writing.
Rc4 can read rar files and use roms Inside, but it can't fix them.

Ah, I didn't know that was the case. Good to know.

But it still possible to fix for those who use WinRAR

Anyways, 7Zip is allot batter for roms as it use deduplication you can read about it here

So in my eyes is no need what so ever to use WinRAR as archive for roms

I know this topic is a bit old now, but I'd actually really like rar(5) support to be added to Romcenter. 7z is king when it comes to pure compression ratio, but rar comes very close yet unpacks a lot faster than 7z. This the reason I'd like to use .rar for some systems that have bigger games such playstation 2 or Wii. It makes playing them much easier. I use Launchbox as frontend, which can unpack archived games before loading it into an emulator. The difference between waiting 4 minutes or 30 seconds is big...

But I was kinda bummed when I discovered Romcenter doesn't support rar at all. I can understand that writing rar costs money and is out of the question, but it would be super cool if Romcenter would at least be able to scan through my rar files to check which games I'm missing and which ones are wrong according to a datfile. Now I've gotta use 2 tools; Romcenter as a main tool and the (in my opinion annoying) clrmamepro as a second tool for rar'ed games :(
