i've got a problem. i tried opening romcenter 3.40 and got an error message saying this...

unhandled error
no permission for read-write access to database C:\PROGRAM FILES\ROMCENTER\TEMPLATE.BIN This user does not have priviledge to perform this operation on this object. Error Code: 32

this was followed by another error message saying:

Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000

then, romcenter closes itself afterwards. can somebody please help me with this issue. thanks

You're right, there is a problem with romcenter trying to access the template database file for writing...
I will check that. Until then, you can launch rc with admin rights, or install rc not in 'program files' folder.

Got the error in Windows 7. I just changed the security settings on the file (Full control to users) and it works fine.

Yes, it happens when template.bin is write protected.
This is fixed and will be available in next release.
