What version of RomCenter are you using?

The MAME SuperSet is a datafile which contains ROMs other than just MAME (e.g. Nebula, Kawaks, etc). You have downloaded the supplement which is to be used in addition to a MAME set. The supplement doesn't contain any MAME ROMs (hence only 172 games in your case).

It does fix the problem. You must still have the old version installed somewhere.

There is no difference between using DatUtil v2.32 in RomCenter or downloading my data files (which are generated with DatUtil v2.32).

My host has fixed it now. Apparently it was caused by an Apache upgrade.

I'll try to figure out what the download problem is when I am back home... about 8 hours time.

denzilla: Can I assume that you also experienced the problem before upgrading to the new DatUtil?

You might find that today's release of DatUtil fixes the problem.

MAME now describes resources differently (0.117u1 and 0.117u2) so an update was required for DatUtil to understand the new XML. Maybe this resulted in a data file that RomCenter couldn't handle properly (causing it to crash).

I wasn't doing datafiles back at the time of MAME 0.34 (which was released 8 years ago).

I would suggest that you download it onto a PC from http://www.mame.net/oldmame.html and see if it has the "listinfo" option.

If it does then you should be able convert it to RomCenter format using DatUtil ...

You can see how I do it if you download my source for DatLib.

In listxml.c there is a macro called CONVERT_XML_STRING.

It's the other tags (like author, version, refname) that I was thinking about. If I don't make DatUtil support them then they will get lost during conversions.

Let me know when you decide on them and I'll add support.

I am guessing that it is from pocketheaven.com because a quick Google search showed them at the top as supplying a PSP datafile.

I've had a look at it and their data file is in 2.00 format so I am guessing that the lack of filesize is something to do with the transition from 1.92 to 2.00 many years ...

D) main set + multiple clone (treat like A)
E) multiple clones w/o main set (the most complicated scenario)

OK, suppose a game has 5 clones. To which clone the main game's files will be added? Select one of them arbitrarily?
to that particular clone which requires these. if more than one does, pick one of those arbitrarily (to avoid duplicates, thats the whole point).

One final tip:

You can 'fix' the generated data file by running it through DatUtil...

datutil -f rc2 "<something>.dat"
... then rename datutil.dat

To save me time in replying, look at how they are grouped on my page:

That will tell you whether they are for specific emulators or just arcade systems that are supported by multiple emulators. Forget about the supplements since you are too new to this to be able to use ...

DatUtil is what makes supporting non-listinfo/listxml emulators possible so it can't be removed unless Eric decides to write RomCenter 3 to support all of the formats that DatUtil provides (like Nebula/Nebula Jukebox drivers, M1 XML, etc). That would be quite a waste of ...

I've made a couple of additions to the XML this morning:

- Changed the M1 definition to 'm1.exe -d' (since m1.xml does not exist yet)
- Added RAINE
- Added Nebula Jukebox (which uses 'datutil -j')
